The film became The Beatles first critcal failure when it was shown on television on December 26th 1967. The film was very experimental in nature and had no recognisable plot. However, when the BBC bought the film they thought they were getting another A Hard Day's Night and scheduled the film to be shown at peek family viewing time. Also the film was made in colour but BBC1 was in black and white at the time - which meant most of the colourful special effects were lost.
